Between 1975 and 1980, the incidence of
Breast Cancer was essentially constant.
Between 1980 and 1987, the incidence
increased by almost 4% per year, and
between 1987 and 2002, the incidence
rates increased by .3% per year. The rapid
increase from 1980 to 1987 is attributed to the
increased use of mammographic screening,
yet The National Cancer Institute estimates
that approximately 2.3 million women with a
history of breast cancer were alive in January
2002. Studies noted in the “Breast Cancer
Facts & Figures 2005-2006” from the American
Cancer Society note that 88% of women
diagnosed with Breast Cancer are survivors
at 5 years after diagnosis, and 63% survive
after 20 years. Breast Cancer is a disease that
can be lived with and a disease that can be
beaten… give yourself the financial support
needed to beat breast cancer, give
yourself a fighting chance.
